Park City Ski Resort Review

Resort Review from an intermediate Snowboarder’s perspective, I like blue and black groomers and tree runs, skip the terrain park and love aprés-ski food and drinks:

Overview:

Park City is one of the biggest ski resorts in North America with over 7,000 ski-able acres. Park City has one of the best towns/villages making it a great place for apres-ski food/drinks, shopping and lodging. To me the terrain is unfortunately boring. It has lots of wide open groomers but not a lot of fun ungroomed areas or glades. If you are looking for a ski resort where you can enjoy the atmosphere and the apres-ski this is your place, but if you are more focused on the terrain I would recommend a different resort.

Pros:

  • Large ski-able area

  • Close to airport (less than an hour)

  • Extensive village and nightlife

Cons:

  • Terrain is choppy and can take awhile to travel across

  • Most blue runs were uninteresting groomers

  • Can be very crowded on weekends due to proximity to Salt Lake City

Getting there:

Park City resort is a short ride from Salt Lake City Airport ~45 minutes. You can schedule a shuttle service or just book an Uber to get from the airport to the resort. I booked an UberSki from SLC to the resort which at the time was cheaper than booking a shuttle service.

Salt Lake City airport is super easy to navigate. I had no issues with my checked snowboard equipment.

Mountain Terrain:

Park City has over 7,000 ski-able acres making it the largest US ski resort. Park City resort is made-up of two ski resorts, what was originally Park City and Canyons resort, there is now a gondola that connects the two areas.

On the Park City side, the resort is made up of a lot of short blue groomer trails, the terrain parks and the double back diamond bowl areas.

Canyons side has a good mix of blue and black trails. Just note if you are staying in Park City it will take you multiple lifts and then the Quicksilver Gondola to first get over to Canyons.

To me it just felt like the ski resort was very choppy and every time I started to pickup speed on a trail I was coming up on the next lift. Maybe my expectations were too high but overall I wasn’t impressed with the terrain.

Village/Lodging:

Park City resort is located right in the town of Park City so it has a ton of amenities. Park City is full of restaurants, bars and shops, it even hosts the Sundance Film Festival so its setup as a fun destination town. There is a good mix of causal and high end restaurants/bars, I highly recommend High West Distillery, one of the best cocktails I’ve had.

When I visited I stayed within walking distance to the Town Lift which was super easy to carry my gear to and from. The town also has a free shuttle that will help you get from Canyons, Park City Village and Town Center.

Park City is a great resort if you are traveling with a group of people where not everyone skis or snowboards as there is plenty to do outside of riding. Its also in a great location if you are looking to quickly get in and out as its very close to Salt Lake City Airport.
